The Oxygen Sensor in Chevrolet Cobalt is used to control the air fuel mixture on the engine exhaust so that performance is raised and pollution is lowered. According to the comparative measurement of oxygen present in the exhaust and in the air, the sensor develops a voltage output that informs whether the mixture is lean or rich. This feedback also helps the engine control computer to control the pulse width of the fuel injector in such a way as to get maximum efficiency from the catalytic converter while at the same time, reduce exhaust emissions. Such sensor is usually made of zirconium dioxide with platinum coating and contains a heater for immediate activity at high temperature. Some of the newer vehicles, there is likelihood that an air-fuel ratio sensor is fitted, which provides a way of measuring from much wider, in order to give better fuel control. The care and inspection of the oxygen sensor should be performed frequently and that failure to do so leads to high emissions and fuel consumption; poor engine performance.

Chevrolet Cobalt Oxygen Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 on Chevrolet Cobalt?
    A:
Vehicle heightening and suitable support are necessary before starting to replace the heated Oxygen Sensor 2. Withe the wheel drive shaft heat shield off the technician will need to note the path of the heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) electrical cabling. To access the ho2s electrical connector in the engine compartment first bend carefully the edge of the channel on the left-hand side of the Exhaust Heat Shield outboard. This releases the ho2s electrical harness for removal. First remove the ho2s using the Oxygen Sensor wrench (J 39194-C) and then lower the ho2s electrical harness away from the vehicle underbody. Before installing the original ho2s item coat its threads in saturn p/n 24185279 or equivalent anti-seize compound. To complete ho2s installation please use the Oxygen Sensor wrench (J 39194-C) for tightening the sensor to 41 n.m (30 lb ft) on the pipe. Reinstall the ho2s electrical harness following its original placement while avoiding wire damage to the Exhaust Heat Shield's channel. The Exhaust Heat Shield channel edge must be bent on its lh side inboard to hold the ho2s electrical harness into place before connecting the ho2s electrical connector. For the last step of the procedure reinstall the wheel drive shaft heat shield before lowering the vehicle.
