2006 Chevrolet Colorado Cam Gear Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the inlet cam gear on 2006 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: You will need tools to remove the intake camshaft sprocket, which are: en-44217-45 (Chain Holding Tool), j 44217 (Timing Chain Retention Tool), and j 44221 (Camshaft Holding Tool). In addition, they include j 45059 (Angle Meter). Begin by removing the camshaft cover and rotating the Crankshaft clockwise until the #1 piston reaches top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke, ensuring the word delphi on the exhaust camshaft position actuator is parallel with the cylinder head to cam cover mating surface. To locate and mark a Timing Chain link near the intake camshaft sprocket, use the timing mark from the latter. However, put the j 44221 on the rear of camshafts and thereafter hang the hook section of the Timing Chain retention tools (J 44217 and EN-44217-45) in a Timing Chain link in the vicinity of the Timing Chain shoe on both sides of the engine, fixing the wingnuts and not letting the hooks out. The intake camshaft sprocket bolt should be removed and thrown away, and the intake camshaft sprocket should also be removed and cleaned. To mount the new intake camshaft sprocket, align the marked link of the Timing Chain to the timing mark of the sprocket using a 25mm (1 inch) wrench on the hex of the camshaft, thus, to help align, and ensure that the alignment pin is inserted. Replace the new sprocket bolt for the intake camshaft and apply 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) torque then apply use the j45059 to turn the bolt another 100 degrees. Lastly, remove the j 44217 and en-44217-45 and take the j 44221 from the camshafts and reattach the camshaft cover.
