2006 Chevrolet Colorado Timing Cover Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the engine front timing cover on 2006 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: The proper sequence to install the engine front cover starts with lower vehicle position followed by Water Pump and crankshaft balancer removal and drive belt tensioner and Power Steering Pump removal and Oil Pump pipe and screen assembly removal. Start by removing the 7 mm center bolt from the front and all remaining bolts from the engine cover. You should put two bolts into the threaded holes as jack screw devices while making equal bolt tightening adjustments to free the engine front cover from the engine block before taking out the engine front cover and two jack screw bolts. First simply remove the Oil Pump for more efficient cleaning but remember to inspect the attached sealing surfaces after cleaning the blocks and engine front cover. After reinstalling the Oil Pump, proceed to install it. Install j 44219 cover alignment pins to the engine block for alignment assistance. The front engine cover requires a 3 mm (0.12 inch) application of gm p/n 12378521 sealer (Canadian P/N 88901148) before installation within a 10-minute timeframe. Position the Oil Pump onto the crankshaft sprocket splines while placing the front engine cover both over the j 44219 and onto the engine block. Secure the engine front cover bolts. Set the j 44219 aside while installing the 2 engine front cover bolts with 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) force then finish with 8 nm (71 inch lbs.) on the small central bolt. To complete the installation sequence place the Oil Pump pipe and screen assembly together with the Power Steering Pump the drive belt tensioner the crankshaft balancer and the Water Pump.
