  • Q: How to replace the engine front timing cover on 2007 Chevrolet Colorado?
    A: To change the engine front cover, you will need the following tools: cover alignment pins (J 44219). Start by uninstalling the Water Pump, crankshaft balancer, tensioner of the drive belt and the Power Steering Pump as well as the Oil Pump pipe and screen assembly. Lower the vehicle and dismantle the 7 mm center bolt as well as the remaining engine front cover bolts. Put in two bolts into threaded holes for the purpose of being jack screws and tighten them to evenly let go the engine front cover from the engine block, remove the cover along with the two bolts from the jack screw holes. If so, take out the Oil Pump and clean and examine the sealing surface of the engine block. For installation in case of the removal of the Oil Pump, first install it. Thread the cover alignment pins (J 44219) into the engine block to help with alignment. Then, use a 3 mm (0.12 in) bead of sealer to the engine front cover and align the Oil Pump with the crankshaft sprocket splines. Align the engine front cover over the cover alignment pins (J 44219) and the engine block, and bolt the engine front cover bolts. Remove the cover alignment pins (J 44219) and tighten the two remaining engine front cover bolts to 10 n.m (89 lb in) and the small center bolt last to 8 n.m (71 lb in). Lastly, fit the Oil Pump pipe and screen assembly, power steering pump, drive belt tensioner, crankshaft balancer, and Water Pump.
