2007 Chevrolet Colorado Cam Gear Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Cam Gear on the Camshaft Position Exhaust Actuator on 2007 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: A replacement of the camshaft position exhaust actuator starts with getting the chain holding tool (J-44217-45), timing chain retention tool (J 44217), camshaft holding tool (J 44221), and angle meter (J 45059). Start the procedure by removing the camshaft cover while testing that the exhaust camshaft position (CMP) actuator works correctly. The Crankshaft needs turning clockwise towards top dead center compression (TDC) of the #1 piston before the delphi label on the actuator reaches parallel position between the head and cover surface. The timing mark on the actuator sprocket should be used to mark the nearby Timing Chain link. Position the camshaft holding tool (J 44221) behind the camshafts while installing the Timing Chain retention tool (J 44217) with its chain holding tool (J-44217-45) by hooking them into Timing Chain shoe nears on each engine side. Secure wingnuts yet confirm the hooks stay fixed. Take out the exhaust camshaft position actuator bolt from its place before removing the exhaust camshaft position actuator completely. A prerequisite step for installation requires both the camshaft actuator to achieve fully advanced position before positioning it into the Timing Chain with the marked link pointed at the actuator sprocket timing mark. The actuator must be properly aligned to the camshaft using a 25 mm (1 in) wrench until the alignment pin engages while the actuator turns clockwise and the new bolt reaches 25 n.m (18 lb ft) torque with an extra 135 degrees installation measured by the angle meter (J 45059). To finish the repair, first put the cmp sensor back on and then place the camshaft cover before taking away the camshaft holding tool (J 44221) and chain holding tool (J-44217-45) as well as the Timing Chain retention tool (J 44217).
