2006 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve on 2006 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: The first step to exchange a thermal expansion valve (TXV) requires employing the Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A) to recover refrigerant. When removing the TXV components you should disconnect the evaporator outlet hose and liquid line retainer plate nut while avoiding the entry of foreign material into the sealing area. You should clean the TXV seal region as well as your tools using non-oil solvents but you must wipe components with lint-free materials while stopping solvent from entering evaporator ventiles or tubes. To proceed with the TXV service disconnect both the evaporator outlet hose and liquid line from the device before disposing the sealing washers. Protection boards should be installed onto both the evaporator outlet hose and liquid line to prevent them from becoming contaminated. First detach the backing plate TXV bolts before extracting the TXV along with the backing plate from the vehicle while discarding the evaporator pipe washers and installing protective caps on these pipes. Installations should begin with removing protective caps from evaporator pipes while maintaining clean and dry and lint-free conditions on the seal areas. After installing new pipe washers on evaporator connections you should remove the protective caps from TXV before putting it onto the evaporator pipes with the backing plate. Transfer the TXV bolts onto the backing plate before tightening them to 3.5 N.m (31 lb in). First remove the protective caps at the TXV connection points followed by installation of new seal washers before you connect the TXV to the liquid line and evaporator outlet hose. The procedure ends when you install the liquid line and evaporator outlet hose retainer plate nut to the TXV while tightening it to 16 N.m (12 lb ft). Then evacuate and charge the A/C system before testing affected A/C joints for leaks using the Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A).
