• Q: How to replace the Rocker Shaft Spring Kit and valve stem oil seal on 2006 Chevrolet Equinox?

  A: To replace the Valve Stem Oil Seal and the valve spring, first unfasten the rock arm and the Spark Plug. Before you take off the valve keys, lower the Piston to top dead center (TDC) by rotating the engine in an effort of pre-venting the valve from falling into the cylinder. Put the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) into the Spark Plug port and use compressed air to hold the valves. Valve spring compressor (J38606) will be used to compress the valve spring, and the valve keys, valve spring cap, and valve spring shall be taken off from the engine. Inspect the valve spring for damages and replace if necessary and then remove the spring seat/valve stem oil seal. When it comes to installation, press the Valve Stem Oil Seal/spring seat on the valve guide boss by using a proper driver before fitting in the valve spring, and the valve spring cap. Recompress the valve spring using valve spring compressor (J 38606) and connect valve keys by tightening if necessary using grease. Breathe the valve spring using the removal of the compressor while making sure the valve keys are seated properly. Finally, evacuate the air pressure, and take off the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794), replace them with the Rocker Arm and the Spark Plug.
