2006 Chevrolet Equinox Valve Stem Oil Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the valve guide seal, replace the valve stem oil seal, and valve spring on 2006 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: Begin Valve Stem Oil Seal fixing work once you gather both the valve spring compressor (J 38606) and Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794). You should begin by taking out the Rocker Arm and Spark Plug. When working with valves turn the engine until the piston stands at tdc to keep them from dropping into the cylinder during valve removal. Put the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) in the Spark Plug port and use compressed air to keep the valves fixed. To open the valves you must compress the valve spring using the valve spring compressor part j 38606. Once decompressed you should take off first the valve keys and the valve spring cap before drawing out the valve spring. When inspecting the valve spring check for damage and replace it when problems exist before you take out the spring seat and Valve Stem Oil Seal. Install the new Valve Stem Oil Seal/spring seat onto the valve guide boss using a proper tool while compressing the valve spring with the valve spring compressor (J 38606). Place the valve spring in position followed by the valve spring cap. Press the valve spring with the valve spring compressor (J 38606) before installing the valve keys. If necessary, apply grease to secure the valve keys. Take off the valve spring compressor tool j 38606 to uncork the valve spring and check that valve keys sit correctly in place. After releasing the air use a socket for the Spark Plug port adapter and end the procedure with the Rocker Arm and Spark Plug.
