2006 Chevrolet HHR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake shoes on 2006 Chevrolet HHR?
A: The Brake Shoe replacement process begins with lifting the vehicle and wheel tire assembly before removing the Brake Drum due to necessary precautions. When taking out the adjuster spring maintain a safe stretching rate so you can disengage the hook from the adjuster actuator lever tab followed by spring release at the Brake Shoe web hole. After removing the pause the adjuster actuator lever should be extracted from its pivot point. With the j 38400 Brake Shoe spanner and spring remover you should open the top of the brake shoes to extract the adjuster assembly from its position. Use j 38400 to push under the universal spring positioned beneath the shoe web hole until it separates from the Brake Shoe while holding the spring then release the park brake cable from the lever on the trailing shoe's park brake component. You should perform the same method on the leading Brake Shoe. Check the Brake Shoe lining thickness which must exceed 0.5 mm (0.020 inch) before continuing; otherwise replace the brake shoes. The Brake Shoe contact surfaces of the Brake Backing Plate need a thin coat of high-temperature silicone brake lubricant. After placing the j 38400 's hook end under the universal spring you need to direct it into the Brake Shoe web hole then complete leading Brake Shoe installation. Attach the park brake cable to the park brake lever of the trailing Brake Shoe before putting on the trailing Brake Shoe according to its original position. Before installing the adjuster assembly and adjuster actuator lever, use j 38400 to open up the top areas of the brake shoes properly. Pour the new adjuster spring into position without over-expanding it and carry out drum brake adjustment then reinstall Brake Drum and tire and wheel parts before letting your vehicle fall.
