2006 Chevrolet HHR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Brake Calipers on 2006 Chevrolet HHR?
A: Firstly, one has to check the level of fluid in the brake master cylinder reservoir; if it is in the middle on the way between maximum-full and the minimum allowable level, DON'T remove any fluid, but if higher then show back to the middle. Lift up and hold the vehicle upright, and then remove tire and wheel assembly marketing. Install and hand tighten with death grip with fingertips two wheel nuts steadily onto two to different wheel studs to hold the rotor to the hub. Put a large C-clamp over the body of the brake caliper with the ends placed at the rear of the caliper body and feast of the outer brake pad and tighten it until the caliper piston is compressed sufficient enough to slide past the brake rotor. Remove the C-clamp and then remove the brake hose-to-caliper bolt and brake hose and dispose of the 2 copper brake hose gaskets that might be left on the brake caliper or hose end. Cap or plug the holes in the brake caliper and hose to avoid fluid loss and contamination and remove the brake caliper guide pin bolts and brake caliper from the bracket. Check the guide pins' movement and the boot condition, if you identify any currations problems, replace the boots. For installation fix the brake caliper to the bracket and fit guide pin bolts and tighten them up to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs). Pull off the caps or plugs from the brake caliper, and hose and insert NEW copper brake hoses gaskets and attach the brake hose and bolt to the caliper, tightening the bolt to 48 Nm ( 35 ft. lbs.). Bleed the hydraulic brake system, remove nuts for the wheels, install the tire and the wheel assembly, lower the vehicle. With the engine OFF, gradually brings the brake pedal to about 2/3 of travel distance and very slow release of pedal and 15 seconds brings the brake pedal fully to pedal again until a firm pedal feel, ensuring proper seating of caliper pistons and pad.
