2006 Chevrolet Malibu Fuel Rail Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel rail assembly on 2006 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: The replacement process of the Fuel Rail assembly begins with removing fuel system pressure. Start the procedure by taking out the air cleaner outlet resonator before disconnecting the vacuum tube from the Fuel Pressure Regulator and unbolting the engine fuel supply and return pipes. The next step requires disconnecting the Fuel Injector harness connectors while removing the Fuel Rail attaching studs. The fuel injectors need to be detached from cylinder head ports by pulling the Fuel Rail back and upward before rotating the rail to direct the injectors downward for removal of the rail. Follow precautions to prevent the electrical terminals of fuel injectors and their spray tips from damage before removing the fuel injectors. To start installation put the fuel injectors in place while maintaining their downward orientation during port entry of the cylinder head. Push the fuel injectors into their ports by rotating the Fuel Rail forward while using new lower o-rings and properly lubricating the injector tip o-rings before installation. The Fuel Rail attaching studs need secure tightening to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Connect the Fuel Injector harness connectors while locking them into position and install the fuel supply and return pipes together with the vacuum pipe to the Fuel Pressure Regulator followed by reinstallation of the air cleaner outlet resonator. The maintenance process concludes with connecting the negative Battery Cable while inspecting for fuel leaks by first turning on the ignition when the engine remains off for two seconds followed by a ten-second ignition off period then another two-second ignition on cycle to identify any leaks.
