The first step for replacing engine oil and Oil Filter requires you to lift and stabilize the vehicle. A drain pan located underneath the oil Drain Plug will allow you to remove the oil pan Drain Plug. Open-end wrenches should not be used for the hex-shaped Oil Filter cap. Instead use an Oil Filter wrench (J 44887). The Oil Filter wrench (J 44887) functions better than other tools for removing the Oil Filter cap. Start by taking off the Oil Filter cap and its attached filter from the cap. Installation requires you to first position the filter onto the cap before putting on the Oil Filter cap with the filter. Be gentle while tightening the Oil Filter cap because excessive torque can create problems that lead to oil leakage. Apply the correct torque until the Oil Filter cap reaches full seating at 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs). Fasten the oil pan Drain Plug by turning it to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Bring the vehicle to a lower position then proceed with filling the engine with oil.
