• Q: How to replace the alternator on 2006 Chevrolet SSR?

  A: In order to replace the generator, first, lift the vehicle and disconnect negative Battery Cable and then lower the vehicle. Take off the accessory Drive Belt and remove engine sight shield if needed. Unplug the generator electrical connector and take off the generator cable by sliding its boot down to expose the terminal stud, but then pull off the generator cable nut from the terminal stud and remove the generator cable. Next, unbolt the generator bolts so as to remove the generator. For installation, fix the generator at its place with the generator bolt and tighten it with 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Put back the generator cable by attaching it and fastening it to the generator cable nut and tighten it to 9 n.m (80 lb in), and slide the boot onto the terminal stud. At that, hook up the generator electrical connector, regain the engine view shield should it have been detached, and replace the accessory Drive Belt. Finally, lift the vehicle again and reconnect negative Battery Cable and lower the vehicle.
