2006 Chevrolet SSR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on 2006 Chevrolet SSR?
A: When you replace the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor, first shut off the ignition and treat the coolant sensor gently so it does not harm the fuel control system. Hold the car safely in the air and drain the cooling system under the ECT sensor. Lower the vehicle, then take off the ECT sensor electrical connector and note that you'll also have to remove the ECT sensor. It's important to put GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or an equal thread sealer on the ECT sensor before installation. Verify that the replacement parts you use match the application's part number, and make sure any coatings won't change how tightly the components are torqued or how they work. Attach the ECT sensor to the engine, turn it till it's tightened to 20 N.m (15 lb ft), and then attach the ECT sensor connector. Finally, refill the engine coolant.
