  • Q: How to replace the ignition coil on 2006 GMC Sierra 1500?
    A: To change the Ignition Coil, you should first strip the air cleaner outlet resonator, then take off the Ignition Coil wire from the Ignition Coil and Distributor Cap. Then, remove the electrical connectors on the Ignition Coil and Ignition Coil driver . After removing the accelator cable slug and cruise control cable from the throttle lever, the accelator cable and cruise control cable from the engine bracket. Remove the accelerator control cable bracket nuts and remove the bracket with cables attached from the Throttle Body and suspend it out of the trackway. Take off the accelerator cable bracket nuts and stud, and accelerator cable bracket. Proceed to remove the Ignition Coil bracket studs and Ignition Coil with the bracket and Ignition Coil bolts/nuts to remove the Ignition Coil from the brackets. Tighten the bolts/nuts to 3.5 n.m (31 lb in) for installation by adding the brackets to both sides of the Ignition Coil. The Ignition Coil and bracket and Ignition Coil bracket studs while making sure they are tightened to 11 n.m (97 lb in). You should then re-montage the accelerator cable bracket and while in the closed position, tighten the nuts/stud to 12 n.m (106 lb in), followed by centering the bracket and cables. Mount accelerator control cable bracket with cables to Throttle Body and tighten the nuts to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Reconnect the accelerator cable to the engine bracket, followed by the cruise control cable and the cruise control cable to the throttle lever, and finally the accelerator cable slug to the throttle lever. Lastly, reattach the electrical connections for Ignition Coil and Ignition Coil driver, lay the Ignition Coil wire to the Ignition Coil and distributer cap, make sure that the coil wire nipple is 35-60 degree aft of perpendicular from the engine centerline on the outboard side of the coil, and replace the air cleaner outlet resonator.
