  • Q: How to replace the front brake calipers on the 2500 Series on 2007 Cadillac Escalade EXT?
    A: The first step to replace the brake caliper for a 2500 series requires checking the brake fluid level inside the master cylinder reservoir. A fluid exchange is not needed if the reservoir liquid level rests at the midpoint between maximum capacity and minimum specifications but fluid needs reduction to that midpoint if the level exceeds it. Beginning with a vehicle support system properly positioned you should remove the tire and wheel assembly. Position two large c-clamps across the brake caliper housing to compress the piston completely until the pistons pull back inside the caliper. Before installation the mechanic should wipe out all particles from the brake caliper and fittings then use brake hose caps to seal off the fluid stream. Additionally the mechanic should remove any existing brake hose or caliper washers before swapping out with new washers. Detach the brake hose from the caliper and discard two copper brake hose gaskets while removing the brake hose to caliper bolt. Brake pedal operation must be avoided when rotors/calipers or drums are absent to protect components. Remove guide pin bolts from the caliper then detach the caliper from its mounting bracket. Mount the new brake caliper on the bracket then feed in the guide pin bolts while torquing them to 108 n.m (80 lb ft). Set aside the brake hose fitting cap or plug then add 2 new copper brake hose gaskets before securing and tightening the brake hose to caliper bolt at 45 n.m (33 lb ft). The brake system requires bleeding followed by tire and wheel assembly replacement and master cylinder reservoir fluid fill up with clean brake fluid when the proper level is reached.
