2007 Cadillac Escalade EXT Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear disc brake pads on the 1500 Series on 2007 Cadillac Escalade EXT?
A: Check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid when starting work on the 1500 series rear disc brake pads. Drain fluid to the midway point if the fluid level stands above this mark. Lift your vehicle and take off the tire and wheel unit at once. Secure the back of the caliper housing with a big c-clamp until the caliper piston reaches the caliper bore. Use hand tools only to remove the guide pin bolts and keep the caliper guide pin steady using an open end wrench before taking out the guide pin bolt from the brake caliper. Secure the brake caliper with mechanic wire to stop hydraulic flexible brake hose strain when maintenance is complete. Turn the brake caliper upward until it rests on the mounting bracket before taking out the brake pads and retaining springs. Keep older retaining springs for replacement. Install the new retaining springs directly onto the brake caliper mount before placing the brake pads back in their usual position. The brake caliper guides into its original position on the bracket then new installation bolts receive 38 n.m (28 lb ft) torque force while using an open end wrench to hold the guide pin. Reattach the wheel after lowering the car and turn off the engine before applying the Brake Pedal slowly to two-thirds of its range and letting it return to the initial position. Leave the Brake Pedal applied for 15 seconds then release and repeat till you achieve a solid Brake Pedal feel to position the brake caliper pistons correctly. Complete the brake master cylinder reservoir with fresh brake fluid while running Brake Pad and rotor burnishing operations.
