2007 Cadillac SRX Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear drive shaft in an AWD on 2007 Cadillac SRX?
A: The first step to exchanging a rear propeller shaft in an awd vehicle includes vehicle elevation using a support system followed by exhaust system removal. A jack should support the propeller shaft in the region of the support bearing while workers detach the bolts that secure both the heat shield to the underbody and the support bearing. First tag the propeller shaft CV Joint's relationship with the transfer case flange and then remove the transfer case flange bolts that secure the CV Joint. Keep the propeller shaft coupler attached to the shaft while you extract its differential flange bolts , nuts and washers by themselves. A flat-bladed tool needs to enter the transfer case flange notch before moving the propeller shaft towards the rear to separate the CV Joint. Hold the propeller shaft while following the support device during downward movement and advance the shaft to free up the coupler from the differential flange before removing the propeller shaft from the vehicle. Inspect the coupler for splitting while also examining its deep cracks and distorted or missing mounting bolt bushings and inspect the CV Joint for grease leaks as well as damage and binding. To install the differential flange cleaning should begin with the centering pin while the propeller shaft centering bushing requires a clean shop cloth. Inspect and replace broken or worn nuts and bolts and install propeller shaft flange bolts toward their corresponding flange directions signified by arrows on the coupler. The rear propeller shaft receives new lubricant gm p/n 1051344 (Canadian P/N 993037) on its centering bushing before you install the coupler onto the differential flange. Rearward push the propeller shaft to install the coupler by fitting it to the transfer case flange. Before applying threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to the propeller shaft to flange bolts the threads must be clean. The coupler-to-differential flange washers should be installed followed by bolting the coupler to differential flange and torquing bolts to 85 n.m (63 lb ft). The thread locking process must be applied again to the CV Joint bolts on the transfer case flange while following a specific bolt sequence (1-6) and tightening torque of 40 n.m (29 lb ft). The center support bearing needs installation onto the vehicle underbody where the support device should elevate before locking into position using bolts which should be tightened to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Finish the operation by installing the heat shield bolts and torquing them to 8 n.m (71 lb in) before taking out the support device from the propeller shaft. Then reinstall the exhaust system followed by lowering the vehicle.
