- Q: How to replace the rear wheel drive shaft inner CV Joint and seal on 2007 Cadillac SRX?A: Before beginning rear wheel drive shaft inner joint and seal replacement work remove the wheel drive shaft from under the vehicle. J 42572 drive shaft seal clamp pliers (J 42572) must be used with a shop towel wrapping the Axle Shaft to crimp the small retaining clamp into place. Position the wheel drive shaft horizontally within a bench vise to remove the large and small seal retaining clamps from the inner joint seal using a side cutter or suitable tool. To access the inner joint components, first free the seal by separating it from the outer race then wipe away all grease covering the race inner components and balls and cage. Use a horizontal mount of the inner joint housing to place a brass drift on the inner race before striking it with a hammer to compress the Axle Shaft retaining clip. Clean all components of the inner race, outer race, cage, balls and Axle Shaft end with solvent before air drying them completely. Discard the Axle Shaft retaining ring and seal in this process. Check all parts for any signs of damage and wear. The service kit grease distribution requires an inner joint mechanism where you insert around 60 percent of the grease into the ball tracks and balls, cage and inner race before adding the rest into the outer race bottom. Place a new small seal retaining clamp on the Axle Shaft before adding the seal then lastly installing a new retaining ring. Firmly push the inner joint against the Axle Shaft as you press the end of the retaining ring into the Axle Shaft's groove and compress the Axle Shaft ring spacer. Seal the inner joint onto the shaft by hammering a wood block until complete insertion. Wrap the small seal retaining clamp around the boot then use the j 42572 (J 42572) to crimp the clamp until the omega ohm base shape reveals a 1 mm (0.039 in) gap. Feed excess grease into the seal before clamping the large retaining clamp on the seal while checking the joint's dimensions match the proper vehicle parameters with 86.85 mm (3.42 in) separation between seal edges. Check the seal's condition and shape before discarding it and putting in a new one. The large seal retaining clamp should be crimped using the j 42572 (J 42572) tool until it reveals a 1 mm (0.039 in) gap before checking the inner joint's smooth operation through 4-5 wheel drive shaft rotations then completing wheel drive shaft installation.
