2007 Chevrolet Cobalt Brake Shoe Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake shoes on 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Vehicle maintenance requires first lifting it up into position followed by tire and wheel removal before moving on to the Brake Drum extraction. When removing the Brake Drum handle the adjuster spring gently to prevent its damage. You can detach the adjuster spring through two steps. First separate its hook end from the adjuster actuator lever tab and second release it from the Brake Shoe web hole. The adjuster actuator lever needs to disconnect from its pivot point. Using workspace j 38400 Brake Shoe spanner and spring remover users should open the upper part of brake shoes while extracting adjuster components from the footwear. Use the hook end of the Brake Shoe spanner and spring remover (J 38400) to extract lightly the universal spring from the shoe web hole during trailing Brake Shoe removal while also releasing the park brake cable on the trailing shoe park brake lever. Follow this procedure to replace the universal spring on the Brake Shoe located in front of the vehicle. The Brake Shoe lining measurement should exceed 0.5 mm (0.020 in) otherwise the brake shoes need replacement. High-temperature silicone brake lubricant needs to be applied as a thin layer on contact surfaces between the brake shoes and the Brake Backing Plate. The Brake Shoe spanner and spring remover (J 38400) must be applied for installing the leading Brake Shoe by engaging its universal spring into the Brake Shoe web hole. The park brake cable should be bolted to the park brake lever on the trailing Brake Shoe before installing the trailing Brake Shoe in the appropriate manner. The Brake Shoe spanner and spring remover (J 38400) should be used to spread the brake shoes apart before installation of the adjuster assembly and adjuster actuator lever where they should engage correctly. Screw in the adjuster spring so its loop portion links completely with the actuator lever tab. End the process by adjusting drum brakes, installing the drum brake and tire and wheel assembly before lowering the vehicle.
