2007 Chevrolet Cobalt Brake Disc Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake disc on 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Begin by suspending your vehicle then taking off the tire and wheel unit before proceeding with the replacement of the rear Brake Disc. Apply a j 41013 large c-clamp to push the caliper piston while aiming for 1 mm (0.039 in) piston compression only to protect the internal adjusting system. Use heavy mechanic wire to sustain the brake caliper after releasing the c-clamp compression on the piston and avoiding flexible hose strain. Start the process by taking out the brake caliper together with its mounting bracket assembly from the Steering Knuckle while securing the brake hose free from tension. Mark and then remove the Brake Disc starting from its original position to wheel stud locations. Eliminate all rust and contamination from the hub/axle flange by using wheel hub resurfacing kit (J 42450-A) and from the Brake Disc by using rotor resurfacing kit (J 41013). Check mating surface debris before installing the new Brake Disc which needs to be aligned with the matchmark position. Use the appropriate equipment to check the assembled lateral runout (LRO) of the Brake Disc for desired performance and take corrective actions when it surpasses the specifications. The procedure ends with removing support while reinstalling the brake caliper together with bracket then replacing tire and wheel assembly followed by lowering the vehicle and completing pad and disc burnishing as needed.
