2007 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster on 2007 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: Begin the vacuum Brake Booster replacement by taking off and putting aside the underhood electrical center. Next, connect the surge tank connector from the coolant surge hose and keep it safe. Take off the mounting nuts from the master cylinder while keeping brake pipes connected then slowly pull the master cylinder away from vacuum booster and set it aside. Take the vacuum booster check valve and hose assembly away from the booster. You must retain all electrical connectors while taking the transaxle control module (TCM) with its bracket out from the strut tower and placing it atop the engine. Take out the Brake Booster push rod-to-Brake Pedal retaining clip as well as the foam washer from the Brake Pedal assembly before you remove the brake pressure modulator valve assembly and its bracket from their positions. Separate the Brake Booster mounting nuts loosely while letting the foam insulator inside the Brake Booster mounting surface come out naturally. Detach the Brake Booster from both its dash and pedal connections before shifting it down the middle of the car. First install the foam insulator onto the vacuum Brake Booster before attaching the unit to the vehicle. After positioning the booster correctly you should install the mounting nuts without tightening them. Apply a light coating of silicone lubricant to the booster push rod pivot pin on the Brake Pedal home before fitting the push rod onto this pin and the foam washer onto the pin. Finally, attach the Brake Booster push rod retaining clip. Place the Brake Booster in its position at the dash front and Brake Pedal unit before tightening all vacuum Brake Booster nuts to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Secure the brake pressure modulator valve bracket before attaching the vacuum booster check valve and hose to its assembly. Set the master cylinder into the booster then put on the coolant surge hose with its fitting and clamp on the surge tank. Reinstall the electrical components under the hood. If required you must release trapped air from the brake lines.
