2007 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the timing chain and sprockets on 2007 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: The process begins with engine front cover removal followed by camshaft sprocket bolt extraction then complete removal of camshaft sprocket and Timing Chain. You will next remove the crankshaft sprocket and the Timing Chain dampener bolts before taking out the Timing Chain dampener. Begin installation by placing the crankshaft sprocket followed by application of prelube gm p/n 12345501 (Canadian P/N 992704) or equivalent to the crankshaft sprocket thrust surface. Apply a torque of 21 n.m (15 lb ft) to both bolts when installing the Timing Chain dampener. Position the crankshaft timing mark to face the bottom edge of the Timing Chain dampener . The installation of the Timing Chain begins with hanging it from the camshaft sprocket, then placing it onto the crankshaft gear and ensuring both timing marks line up correctly. Use the mounting bolt to bring the dowel in the camshaft into position with the dowel hole of the camshaft sprocket before pulling the camshaft sprocket onto the camshaft. Use engine oil to coat both components before tightening the bolt to produce a torque of 140 n.m (103 lb ft). Place the engine front cover back into its original position.
