2007 Chevrolet HHR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake pads on 2007 Chevrolet HHR?
A: Check the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder auxiliary reservoir before starting. Drain brake fluid to the midway point when the fluid level is above the half mark. After lifting the vehicle and removing its tire and wheel assembly you can proceed with the replacement work. Install two wheel nuts hand tight against wheel studs on opposite rotor sides to hold the rotor onto the hub. Apply a large c-clamp across the brake caliper body to squeeze the piston against the rotor at the end of the body and the Brake Pad. Hold the caliper in position safely by used mechanics wire after loosening the lower guide pin bolt and the c-clamp. Position the caliper upward without disconnecting the hose attachment. Take out the brake pads and their holders from the caliper bracket then clean both mating surfaces from debris. Spot any movement or damage on the guide pins before you replace worn guide pin boots. Apply a large c-clamp to push the caliper piston all the way into its housing. Add thin silicone brake lubricant to the bracket surfaces where brake pads attach. Set the Brake Pad retainers and pads before placing the brake caliper in position. Install the wear sensor pad inboard and facing the brake rotor correctly. Shift the caliper aside and place it above the pads. Insert and tighten the lower guide pin bolt to 34 n.m (25 lb ft). Apply the wheel nuts and put the tire and wheel set on the vehicle while lowering it. When the engine is turned off you need to use the brake pedal less than its full reach three times with brief pauses to completely mate brake caliper pistons with pads. After assembly complete the process by topping up the auxiliary master cylinder reservoir and rocker the brake system components.
