Q: What tools are required to replace the engine front timing cover on LC9, LH6, LMG, LY2, and LY5 engines on 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
A: To swap the engine front cover on lc9, lh6, lmg, ly2, and ly5 engines, the following tools are needed: front and rear cover alignment tool (J 41476) start with removing the Water Pump, crankshaft balancer, and disconnecting the engine harness cmp sensor electrical connector. Next, remove the Oil Pan-to-front cover bolts and the front cover bolts, then remove the front cover and gasket, lay it in the trash. To remove the crankshaft front oil seal, in case of changing the engine front cover, disconnect the cmp sensor wire harness bolts, detach the wire harness from the cmp sensor, remove the cmp sensor wire harness and cmp sensor. During installation, never reuse the crankshaft oil seal or front cover gasket (front cover gasket only if specified), and do not use sealant on the gasket. Surfaces of all gaskets are to be clean and the crankshaft front oil seal should be aligned. Check the o-ring seal of cmp sensor for damage; if not, lubricate it with clean engine oil and install the cmp sensor. Install the front valve cover bolts for the cmp sensor wire harness to front cover and the cmp sensor, torquing the bolts to 12 n.m (106 lb in).-position the cmp sensor wire harness to the front cover and connect to the cmp sensor etc... Apply five mm (0.20 in) bead of sealant to the Oil Pan to engine block junction, install the new engine front cover gasket and the front cover, install the front cover bolts and Oil Pan-to-front cover bolts as tight as possible. Mount the front and rear cover alignment tool (J 41476) to the front cover having its tapered legs aligned with the machined surfaces. Tighten crankshaft balancer to be snuggitthen tighten Oil Pan to front cover bolts and engine front cover bolts 25 n.m (18lb ft). Put off alignment tool, reconnect the engine harness electrical connector to the cmp sensor wire harness, replace a crankshaft front oil seal, and lastly, replace the Water Pump.
