  • Q: How to replace the front disc brake pads on an AWD on 2008 Cadillac CTS?
    A: Before working on the front disc brake pads of an awd vehicle check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. If it is higher than halfway between its upper and lower marks drain additional fluid until it reaches the right point. Lift your car with safety support and take off the wheel tire set. Secure the new brake caliper pistons by pressing them with a c-clamp attached to the brake caliper housing and Brake Pad outer edge before taking out the bolt that secures the brake caliper guide pin, support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire to protect the hydraulic hose while working with a back up wrench on the guide pin. Turn the brake caliper up and hold it steady before taking out the brake pads and related parts from inside to outside. Look for damage and corrosion on the brake caliper guide pins and seals as well as Brake Pad springs. Attach Brake Pad springs and brake pads to the caliper before lowering its position into place. Clean both threads of the guide pin bolt and bolt using denatured alcohol then let them dry. Use threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) on 2/3 of the brake caliper guide pin bolt threads by applying and allowing it to dry for 10 minutes. Thread in and then lock the brake caliper guide pin bolt with a back up wrench to 27 n.m (20 lb ft) torque setting for je5 or 65 n.m (48 lb ft) for j55. Put the tire and wheel back in place before pressing the brake pedal about two-thirds of its extent while turning off the engine. Continue activating and releasing the pedal until the brake caliper pistons and brake pads reach their proper resting position. Complete the brake job with the stated procedures to reach maximum braking performance.
