Begin your rear brake caliper replacement by checking the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. When the reservoir shows fluid at the midpoint you should proceed without draining any fluid and when it shows higher fluid levels you should reduce it to the midpoint mark. The first step consists of raising and supporting the vehicle before uninstalling the tire wheels from their position. Apply a c-clamp between the outer Brake Pad and brake caliper body and tighten it at a slow pace to drive the brake caliper pistons inward. Moving to the next step involves taking off the brake hose fitting bolt and brake hose fitting gaskets and brake hose while discarding the gaskets. Advance to the brake caliper guide pin bolts with a back up wrench before you detach the brake caliper. Brake caliper guide pins and seals and Brake Pad springs need to be checked for any signs of damage or corrosion. Before using the brake caliper guide pin bolts once again clean their threads through denatured alcohol before they dry. Apply threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) on the bolts until they reach a length of 2/3 of their threaded section and monitor the threadlocker for a 10-minute curing period. Apply back up wrenches for tightening brake caliper guide pin bolts to 27 n.m (20 lb ft). Attach the prepped brake hose fitting bolt alongside its two new gaskets to the brake hose . Reinstall the complete assembly onto the caliper before tightening the bolt to a torque of 49 n.m (36 lb ft). After bleeding the hydraulic brakes place the tire wheel assembly back into position. Apply a medium pressure to the brake pedal with the engine off while releasing the pedal slowly for multiple times until you achieve a firm feel at 2/3 pedal height. This ensures proper brake caliper pad seating. End by filling the brake master cylinder reservoir to its appropriate level.
