  A: Before replacing the Rack And Pinion inner Tie Rod (Magnasteer) you must remove the steering gear from your vehicle. Before putting the boot back in place check for signs of decay or damage on the inner Tie Rod. Move forward with the repair when no signs of damage exist. Use j 34028 inner Tie Rod wrench (J 34028) to extract the shock dampener from its position on the inner Tie Rod housing before sliding the rack into place. Install a pipe wrench against the rack's inner Tie Rod housing while applying another wrench to the flats of the inner Tie Rod housing . Slowly rotate the inner Tie Rod housing downward with counterclockwise motion then stop when the rack and housing parts separate. The installer must repeat this same removal process on the inner Tie Rod housing and the inner Tie Rod. The threads of both inner Tie Rod and rack should receive cleaning before loctite(R) residue is removed from either section. As a final step check the stakes with a 0.25 mm gage before sliding the shock dampener onto the inner Tie Rod housing to finish the Rack And Pinion boot installation and reinstall the steering gear.
