2008 Cadillac Escalade ESV Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear disc brake pads on the 1500 Series on 2008 Cadillac Escalade ESV?
A: Check the brake master cylinder fluid level before starting work on the 1500 series rear disc brake pads. Drain the fluid until the level reaches halfway between minimum and maximum markings if the fluid exceeds this point. Lift and secure the vehicle while taking off the tire and wheel unit. Adjust the Brake Caliper Piston with a c-clamp over the housing toward the inboard pads until the piston fully compresses. For guide pin bolt removal keep hand tools handy when tightening an open-end wrench onto the caliper guide pin. Put heavy mechanic wire under the brake caliper to protect the hydraulic brake hose. Pull the bolt that holds the guide pin in place from the brake caliper unit. Then move the caliper upward while keeping it secure in its position. Keep the original Brake Pad positions and springs marked to install them correctly. Also put new retaining springs in each slot. Take off brake pads and retaining springs from their attachment space. Put fresh retaining springs both on the caliper mounting bracket and positions for new brake pads. Fit the brake caliper in place on the mounting bracket then put on the new mounting bolts. Secure the caliper guide pin bolt with 38 n.m torque by gripping the pin with an open end wrench. Reposition the tire and wheel, decline the vehicle, and press the Brake Pedal gently until it reaches 2/3 of its length before letting go. Continue to pump the Brake Pedal until the pedals register a strong resistance to settle the brake caliper pistons and pads. Place clean brake fluid into the brake master cylinder until it reaches the appropriate mark followed by preparing brake rotors and pads with a burnishing process.
