  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser in a heavy-duty cooling system on 2008 Cadillac STS?
    A: The first step when changing the condenser in heavy-duty cooling systems involves performing refrigerant recovery with a halogen leak detector (J 39400-A). Begin project by removing Power Steering Cooler mounting bolts before using a support system to lift the vehicle. Handle the front air deflector retainers first and then the front air deflector until finally removing the lower air baffle push pin retainers. The condenser installation process starts by removing the condenser upper bracket bolts followed by lower mounting bolts and releasing the discharge line with its bolt and o-ring. Save the o-ring before removing the condenser tube from its connection to the condenser unit. Prepare the removal of the condenser by moving the Power Steering Cooler and then uninstall the condenser itself. When installing a new condenser you must add the recommended amount of pag oil directly into the device. After condenser installation add the Power Steering Cooler to its position. Connect the condenser tube to the condenser using the bottle with a new o-ring. Then secure the tube with the condenser tube bolt at 9 n.m (80 lb in). Use a new o-ring to link the condenser with the discharge line while tightening the discharge line bolt up to 9 n.m (80 lb in). The installation process requires first tightness of lower mounting bolts on the condenser to 5.4 n.m (48 lb in) then the upper bracket bolts at the same torque rating. Place back the lower air baffle push pin retainers and reinstall both the front air deflector and its mountings. Once the vehicle approaches ground level install and tighten Power Steering Cooler mounting bolts. Before completion evacuate the a/c system and recharge it while performing a leak test with the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) on each fitting.
