Q: How to replace the engine oil and oil filter on 2008 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: A vehicle must be securely raised while removing the oil fill cap for engine oil and Oil Filter replacement. Use a suitable drain pan under the vehicle position while cleaning the surrounding area of the Oil Pan Drain Plug. After draining all the oil from the pan remove the plug, thoroughly clean both the Drain Plug and its sealing surface before replacing it as needed but keep the Oil Pan replacement for only if necessary. Wipe all residual oil from the Drain Plug opening while reinstalling the Drain Plug until it becomes tight. Start by placing a suitable drain pan at both the drain deflector of the engine Oil Filter and the filter area itself. Then remove the filter. Check if the gasket remains attached to the used filter on the adapter; remove it before continuing if not found. Put new oil on the new Oil Filter gasket then place and tighten the new filter correctly to 10 n.m (89 lb in) tightening an additional 150 degrees. Toss away extra oil from the Oil Filter drain deflector before torquing the Oil Pan Drain Plug to 26 n.m (19 lb ft). Lower the vehicle to drain the pan and add new engine oil through the recommended oil capacity using the provided specifications. After starting the engine you should look for oil leaks before switching off the engine to let the oil return to the pan. Install the cleaned oil level indicator into its tube while turning the handle so it reaches the uppermost edge of the tube. To check the oil level remove the indicator a second time by keeping the tip positioned below the tube while you match the indicator mark with the oil plug threads and perform any necessary oil adjustments through drainage or addition. The last step involves leak inspection and correct placement of the oil fill cap.
