2008 Chevrolet HHR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the positive battery cable on 2008 Chevrolet HHR?
A: The first step for replacing the positive Battery Cable requires disconnecting the negative terminal. The first steps include removing the carpet followed by instrument panel tie bar then removing the spare tire together with its insulator. Begin by opening the positive Battery Cable cover while using a wrench on the positive Battery Cable nut before removing the cable from the battery. Remove the body harness electrical connector from the positive Battery Cable connector along with the clips (3, 4) from their studs. Proceed to take off both positive Battery Cable clips (1, 2) from the rear compartment panel studs followed by extracting the cable (1) from the clips (2) on the body harness. To reach the positive Battery Cable you must first separate the driver side upper metal clip and the driver side only retainer which hold the sound barrier to the dash panel before repositioning the sound barrier. Pick the cable from its harness body clips first followed by pulling the rubber grommet from the dash front. Open the junction block terminal cover and unfasten the junction block terminal nut while extracting positive/negative Battery Cable terminals from the stud followed by removing the positive terminal from the junction block stud. Detach the positive Battery Cable's clips which secure the ecm/tcm bracket as well as extract the cable from its body harness clip. You need to pull out the engine compartment portion of positive Battery Cable by entering from inside the vehicle through the dash front opening before completely removing the cable from inside. Start your installation of positive Battery Cable inside the vehicle before directing the engine compartment section through the front section of the dashboard. Few steps involve connecting the body harness clip to the cable before attaching the clips to the ecm/tcm bracket. Fitting the junction block begins by connecting the positive Battery Cable terminal to its stud followed by connecting the positive/negative Battery Cable terminal to the same stud. From there install the junction block terminal nut and tighten it to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). After closing the junction block terminal cover you should mount the rubber grommet to the dash front while securing the positive Battery Cable to body harness clips. Secure the driver side of the dash panel sound barrier by tucking it around the instrument panel mounting bracket and fasten it using the driver side only fastener along with the upper metal clip. Start by attaching positive Battery Cable clips to the floor panel studs before installing the cable onto its corresponding clips from the body harness. Finish by installing the rear compartment panel studs clips (1, 2). Use the body harness electrical connector to join with the positive Battery Cable connector followed by installing the clips (3 4) to their corresponding studs. Replace the positive Battery Cable onto the battery followed by tightening the nut to 15 n.m (11 lb ft) before you close the positive Battery Cable cover. To finish the process reinstall the spare tire insulator together with the spare tire and instrument panel tie bar and carpet before reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.
