2008 Chevrolet Impala Fuel Level Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace a Fuel Level Sensor (RPO NU6) Using the J 45722 Tool on 2008 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The Fuel Level Sensor (RPO NU6) requires replacement after removing the Fuel Tank and disconnecting both evaporative emission and fuel lines from the sensor location. Use only the j 45722 Fuel Level Sensor lock ring wrench to access the lock ring by shifting the fuel feed and evap lines while taking necessary precautions to protect it. Use only j 45722 when working with the Fuel Level Sensor because handling by fuel pipes may damage the joints and impact tools should be avoided due to the high force needed to unlock the lock ring. Securely fasten the Fuel Tank to stop it from rotating. To unlock the Fuel Level Sensor lock ring use the j 45722 along with a long breaker-bar by turning it counterclockwise then remove the Fuel Level Sensor from the Fuel Tank and discard the Fuel Level Sensor o-ring seal. Clean both sealing surfaces of the Fuel Level Sensor o-ring seal while examining the lock ring for damage and flatness. You can reuse the ring if it shows less than 0.41 mm (0.016 in) warpage but must replace it if the damage is present. Installation of the Fuel Level Sensor requires a new Fuel Level Sensor o-ring seal to be positioned onto the Fuel Tank along with correct placement of the alignment tab followed by pushing down the Fuel Level Sensor to position the lock ring onto the Fuel Tank. The Fuel Level Sensor needs a new seal during installation while the lock ring should face upwards with clockwise rotation. Follow the procedures in j 45722 for clockwise lock ring installation onto the Fuel Level Sensor followed by reinstallation of the fuel line and evap lines to the sensor before reinstalling the Fuel Tank.
