2008 Chevrolet Impala Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2008 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Begin your replacement of the Oil Pan by disconnecting the Battery Cable's negative terminal. Mount struts of the engine must be removed before installing the engine support fixture (J46439-B). To begin the Oil Pan replacement you must first drain the crankcase after removing the Oil Pan Drain Plug and Catalytic Converter. Reinstall the Drain Plug afterward disassemble the oil filter adapter and Starter then bolt and nut the a/c compressor apart before placing it away from the work area. Next the technician disconnects the oil level sensor electrical connector while removing engine harness clips from both the Oil Pan and transaxle brace. Disconnect the front transaxle brace bolts from the engine while removing Engine Mount lower nuts and gently loosening transaxle mount lower nuts. Place the j46439-b engine support fixture beneath the engine to lift it while lowering the vehicle after removing the bolts that join the rear transaxle brace to engine/Oil Pan. Steer the vehicle while removing the intermediate pinch bolt from the steering shaft and Engine Mount bracket bolts together with the Engine Mount and bracket. After disassembling the right side lower Ball Joint and outer tie rod and stabilizer link you must install frame-mounted jackstands. Start by removing the right side frame bolts then loosen the left side bolts before lowering the frame right section through the jackstand support points. The torque wrench adapter (J39505) helps remove right side Oil Pan side bolts before moving to left side Oil Pan side bolts and Oil Pan bolts eventually removing Oil Pan and gasket. Thoroughly clean both sides of the Oil Pan flanges as well as the Oil Pan rail and front cover and rear main bearing cap and threaded holes. Use sealer on both crankshaft rear main bearing cap sides before adding a new Oil Pan Gasket. Apply the Oil Pan to the engine before installing its bolts with torque at 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Install the left side Oil Pan side bolts first before using the torque wrench adapter (J39505) to tighten the right side pan side bolts to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). After lowering the right frame side to its original height put on the frame bolts before taking out the jackstands. Connect the steering knuckle to the right side stabilizer link and outer tie rod and lower Ball Joint. Position the Engine Mount next to the Oil Pan before you install the bracket bolts securing them at 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Lower the vehicle next and use the engine support fixture (J46439-B) to drop the engine after installing the steering shaft intermediate pinch bolt. Mount the raised vehicle so you can install rear transaxle brace bolts into the engine/Oil Pan space before tightening them to 63 n.m (46 lb ft). Fasten the Engine Mount lower nuts to 50 n.m (37 lb ft) tension levels followed by using the same torque values on the transaxle mount lower nuts. Screw the front transaxle brace into position alongside the bolts that hold the brace to the engine while tightening them to 63 n.m (46 lb ft). Reconnect the oil level sensor electrical connector while securing the engine harness clips around both the Oil Pan and transaxle brace. Add the a/c compressor before installing its nut and bolt so they reach 50 n.m (37 lb ft) torque then secure the a/c compressor rear bolt. Before lowering the vehicle install the Starter along with the oil filter adapter and Catalytic Converter. After removing the engine support fixture team members must install the Engine Mount struts before adding new engine oil to the crankcase while completing the installation with negative Battery Cable connection.
