2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the parking brake cable on 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: A vehicle service requires the isolation of the automatic park brake adjuster before starting work. Safely lift up the vehicle followed by proper vehicle support then you can remove the rear propeller shaft. Use the Parking Brake Cable release tool (J 37043) to remove the park brake cable after detaching it from the parking brake equalizer and its cables. Left park brake cable servicing does not require Fuel Tank removal because technicians can use a pole jack with block of wood under the Fuel Tank followed by removing the shield for the Fuel Tank and then disconnecting the rear support bracket from the Fuel Tank. When the Fuel Tank rests on the pole jack it will descend just 102 mm (4 inches) to expose the rear park brake cable retainer above the tank. .utilities must disconnect the park brake cable retaining nuts which secure the mounting studs beneath the vehicle body before separating the park brake cable from retaining brackets then uninstall the bolt that anchors the park brake retention bracket to the frame. Touching retaining clips allows removal of the park brake from its mounting bracket before detaching the actuator. Lower the park brake cable through the frame until the inside of the vehicle is reached before removing it. The park brake cables need installation by passing them over the Fuel Tank assembly before pulling them toward the outside direction of the frame. To install the park brake cable retaining nuts use a torque of 10 n.m (7 lb ft) while fitting them to the underbody mounting studs. The operator must first lift the Fuel Tank before adding the rear support bracket then remove the pole jack combined with the block of wood. First hook the park brake cable to the actuator before pressing down the retaining clips then install the park brake retainer on the frame followed by tightening the park brake retaining bracket bolt to 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Attach the park brake cable to its retainers and also the parking brake equalizer before reinstalling the rear propeller shaft. Lower the vehicle then enable the park brake automatic adjuster to perform necessary Brake Shoe adjustments. Testing brake operation should also be performed here.
