2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the parking brake cable on 2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: The replacement of the Parking Brake Cable begins by disabling the Parking Brake Cable adjuster. Support the vehicle then remove the propeller shaft from the rear position. You must use the j 37043 (Parking Brake Cable Release Tool) to remove the park brake cable after detaching the park brake cables from the parking brake equalizer. Start by installing a pole jack that has a wooden block beneath the Fuel Tank and afterward remove the Fuel Tank shield together with the rear support bracket. The suspension of the Fuel Tank during maintenance allows technicians to access the rear park brake cable retainer since the tank will drop only 102 mm (4 inches). The park brake cable nuts on the underbody studs require removal before the cable detaches from retainers while the frame retains the park brake bracket bolt and retainer. The retaining clips need compression before removing the park brake cable from both bracket and actuator. Proceed by pushing the cable through the frame toward the exterior of the vehicle. To install position the park brake cable above the Fuel Tank assembly then draw it through the vehicle frame. Attach the park brake cable nuts to underbody studs while tightening them to 10 nm (89 lb in). After that, raise the Fuel Tank and put back the rear support bracket. First detach the pole jack and block of wood then hook the park brake cable to the actuator before compressing the retaining clips while installing the park brake retainer and bracket bolt which must be tightened to 17 nm (13 lb ft). Proceed with these steps to complete the repair: reattach the park brake cable to the retainers and equalizer, reinstall the rear propeller shaft, lower the vehicle while enabling the Parking Brake Cable adjuster and testing park brake operation then adjusting park brake shoes if needed.
