2008 GMC Acadia Cam Gear Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace the Cam Gear in a Variable Valve Timing Actuator on 2008 GMC Acadia?
A: En-48313 Timing Chain retention tool (EN-48313) serves as simple and effective tool to fix the camshaft position actuator on bank 2 (Left Side) exhaust. Start your work by taking off both lower Intake Manifold and the left camshaft cover. Start by removing both camshaft position sensors from the left side and proceed by taking off the two camshaft position actuator solenoids. Use only clockwise rotation to turn the crankshaft balancer bolt until both camshafts remain in neutral positions with their timing chains and position actuators ready for proper assembly. Mark the Timing Chain links directly next to the camshaft position actuator teeth. Hold the en-48313 into position between camshafts and choose an open-end wrench to move them towards each other until you have slack in the chain. Turn en-48313 counterclockwise to expand its legs. Put the en-48313 between the camshaft actuators with feet facing forward while partially extending its legs by rotating the t-shaped handle clockwise. Insert the Timing Chain Guide leg of the en-48313 tool and keep expanding until it touches the Timing Chain before tightening the en-48313 by hand. Turn the open-end wrench to make the chain loose while installing the en-48313 tool correctly. Unscrew the camshaft position actuator bolt then take out the left exhaust camshaft position actuator and put the part into position for removal. To reinstall use the alignment mark on the exhaust camshaft actuator to the corresponding Timing Chain mark established when you disassembled. Also keep the intake camshaft actuator alignment mark properly aligned. Secure the exhaust camshaft position actuator to the camshaft using hand torque first and then tighten the bolt to 58 n.m (43 lb ft) after removing the en-48313. Put back the left intake and exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoids together with the sensors and position the left camshaft cover and lower Intake Manifold.
