GMC Acadia Cam Gear Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Cam Gear on Bank 1 (Right Side) Exhaust on GMC Acadia?
A: The procedure to replace the camshaft position actuator on bank 1 starts by removing its lower and upper intakes before detaching the right camshaft cover. Unplug both Camshaft Position Sensors from their right locations before taking out their actuator solenoids also. For proper placement turn the crankshaft balancer bolt clockwise only until the camshafts align with the camshaft cover rail when they are in their lowest tension position. You should apply paint stick marks to both sides of the Timing Chain and to the actuators on the camshafts. These marks will show the correct alignment between components. Brace the hex area on left camshafts to make Timing Chain loose between camshaft position actuators. Insert the en-48313 tool legs between camshaft actuators. Then put its top line flat against the Cylinder Head surface. Turn the t-shaped handle clockwise to open en-48313 legs until its feet touch the Timing Chain. Keep each foot nested in chain link pockets to stop them from slipping. Turn the en-48313 handle by hand to set the tool then apply an open end wrench on the built in hex to tighten the t-handle further. Pull the camshafts closer together to create chain slack and then secure a wrench on the hex cast into the camshaft to keep the engine from spinning as you turn the camshaft position actuator bolt. Set the chain on the engine block as you remove the right exhaust camshaft position actuator bolt and the actuator unit from its socket. To take out the actuator reluctor wheel you need to match its opening with the cam sensor boss. To install align the exhaust camshaft actuator mark with Timing Chain mark while matching intake camshaft actuator mark to its proper Timing Chain position. Install the exhaust camshaft actuator onto its camshaft position then bolt it by hand before removing the en-48313 component. Set the exhaust camshaft actuator bolt to 58 n.m (43 lb ft) torque and put back the right intake and exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoids, sensors, cover, and finally the lower Intake Manifold with upper manifold.
