2008 GMC Envoy Brake Disc Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake disc on 2008 GMC Envoy?
A: To replace the rear Brake Disc, one should first check the level of brake fluid in the brake master cylinder reservoir; if it is above midway, take out excess fluid. Lift the vehicle so that the tire and wheel assembly can be removed. Apply a large c-clamp (J 46277) above the brake caliper housing to compress the rear brake caliper pistons. Take off the rear brake-caliper mounting bracket and Brake Disc retaining clips. If the Brake Disc is trapped, attach the disc removal tool (J-46277) to the slide hammer (J 2619-01) and drive the disc removal tool between the disc friction surfaces to free the disc from the hub assembly. Clean for any rust or foreign material from the mating surfaces prior to Brake Disc removal. Clean the "Brake Disc to the rear axle flange contact area" using the Wheel Hub resurfacing kit (J 42450-A) and, if needed, recondition the disc. Check the components of the park brake for any damage and perform replacements when necessary. Make sure that you clean the park brake shoes with the denatured alcohol, let them dry using the non-lubricated filtered air, and lubricate the contact zone with the high-temperature silicone brake lubricant. Check and correct the park brake if needed, with the disc to axle flange relationship markings aligned. Mount the Brake Disc by rotating it while mounting it in the axle flange, then refitting the rear brake caliper mounting bracket and tire and wheel. Lower the vehicle and check up the brake master cylinder reservoir if necessary. Lastly, give a moan to the brake pedal only slowly and firmly to seat the brake pads and burnish the replaced or refinished discs.
