2008 GMC Envoy Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal and housing on 2008 GMC Envoy?
A: The first step for Crankshaft rear oil seal housing replacement involves removing both transmission and the Flywheel bolts to detach the aspect. Install two jackscrew bolts through the holes before removing the Crankshaft rear oil seal housing bolts to free the cover from the block. Start by removing the Crankshaft along with the rear oil seal housing from the transmission bay. Finally remove the oil seal from the Crankshaft. The rear seal installer device (J 44227) helps position the Crankshaft rear oil seal but users must install the seal housing within a ten-minute period after placing 3 mm (0.12 in) sealant onto these points: the engine block seal area and both machine surface areas that contact the Oil Pan. Use the cover alignment pins (J 44219) to position them into block openings before sliding the Crankshaft rear oil seal housing onto the alignment pins and Crankshaft. Install all housing bolts except two guide pin locations before removing guide pins and completing the installation with 10 n.m (89 lb in) of torque. After cleaning the Oil Pan sealing area install the Flywheel while tightening the bolts beginning at the center of the Flywheel then moving outwards to a torque of 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Before placement of the transmission use the torque angle meter (J 36660-A) to tighten bolts 50 degrees beyond their initial torque specification.
