And for installation, using the rear seal installer (J 44227), install the Crankshaft rear oil seal and then take it out. Put on a 3 mm (0.12 inch) bead of gm p/n 12378521 on the rear oil seal housing, and install the cover alignment pins (J 44219) into the block. Pull the Crankshaft rear oil seal housing over the alignment pins and Crankshaft. Use of the plastic installation sleeve provided in the new seal is important, and after its installation should be discarded. Fit the Crankshaft rear oil seal housing bolts to the two omitted guide pins and remove the guide pins so that the remaining bolts are fitted and the bolts tightened to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Remove any leftover material from the bottom of the
Oil Pan sealing area, and then install the Flywheel as well as bolt on, tighten up 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs. In a designed sequence). Finally, tighten the bolts with the help of the torque angle meter (J 36660-A) by 50 degrees and prevent the transmission from being installed.
