GMC Envoy Crankshaft Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal and housing on GMC Envoy?
A: To replace Crankshaft rear oil seal and housing, first remove the transmission, and remove flying wheel bolts then Flywheel will be removed. Next, take away the crank shaft rear oil seal housing bolts and insert two bolts in jackscrew hole to remove the cover from block. Next is to take out the crank shaft and rear oil seal housing and the extraction of oil seal from the crank shaft snout. And for installation, using the rear seal installer (J 44227), install the Crankshaft rear oil seal and then take it out. Put on a 3 mm (0.12 inch) bead of gm p/n 12378521 on the rear oil seal housing, and install the cover alignment pins (J 44219) into the block. Pull the Crankshaft rear oil seal housing over the alignment pins and Crankshaft. Use of the plastic installation sleeve provided in the new seal is important, and after its installation should be discarded. Fit the Crankshaft rear oil seal housing bolts to the two omitted guide pins and remove the guide pins so that the remaining bolts are fitted and the bolts tightened to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Remove any leftover material from the bottom of the Oil Pan sealing area, and then install the Flywheel as well as bolt on, tighten up 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs. In a designed sequence). Finally, tighten the bolts with the help of the torque angle meter (J 36660-A) by 50 degrees and prevent the transmission from being installed.
