How to replace the automatic transmission shift cable on 2009 Buick Lucerne?

The first step in replacing a shift cable involves setting the park brake plus wheel chocking. First remove the shift cable retainer before disconnecting the shift cable terminal from the transmission manual shift lever pin. To disconnect the shift cable from the bracket apply pressure on its locking tabs until they open up. Once this is done pull out the console trim plate. You need to disconnect both the shift cable terminal from the shift control pin before taking out the shift cable from the shift control base. First disconnect the shift cable grommet located at the cowl panel while taking out the shift cable from the vehicle. To install the shift cable pass it through the cowl panel where you should place the grommet followed by connecting the shift cable to the shift control base and terminal to the shift control pin. The console trim plate should be installed first before you insert the shift cable into the bracket while connecting its terminal to the transmission manual shift lever pin. Before closure attach the shift cable retainer while adjusting the shift cable.
