  • Q: How to replace the harmonic balancer on 2009 Cadillac DTS?
    A: Initiate the crankshaft balancer replacement by dismantling the Drive Belt followed by extracting the transaxle to engine brace bolts and the actual brace. First, detach the torque converter cover bolt followed by removing the cover itself. Fasten the flywheel holder (J 44214) before removing the crankshaft balancer bolt. First support the frame using a suitable adjustable jack. Then take off the front fascia. Use the j 41816 crankshaft balancer remover after you lower the frame by loosening its right side bolts. A remover pilot should be inserted into the crankshaft end before using the remover tool to uninstall the balancer component. The crankshaft balancer installer (J 41998-B) should be used to press the crankshaft balancer onto the crankshaft nose during installation. Use engine oil to clean the crankshaft balancer bolt threads before adding the bolt and initial torque it to 50 nm (37 lb ft) with the angler meter (J 45059) then turn it 120 degrees. After setting the frame properly replace the right side frame bolts while tightening them to 181 nm (133 lb ft). The front fascia must be restored before support removal from the frame structure along with igniting the flywheel holder (J 44214). Position the torque converter cover before installing its bolt which needs to be tightened up to 12 nm (106 lb in). Toward the end of the installation process reinstall the transaxle to engine brace while tightening its bolts to 47 nm (35 lb ft) before attaching the Drive Belt.
