2009 Cadillac XLR Coolant Reservoir Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front coolant reservoir on 2009 Cadillac XLR?
A: Before starting coolant reservoir replacement follow the guidance in Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716). Then disconnect the coolant reservoir inlet hose from its valve after releasing the clamp tension. Use J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers to release tension from the coolant reservoir outlet hose clamp before removing the outlet hose from the tank. First remove the protective cap on the coolant reservoir upper stud and slide off the upper nut before beginning to loosen the side nut. The service technician should disconnect the level sensor electrical connector and take the coolant reservoir from its mounting position. Begin coolant reservoir installation by using clean coolant to lubricate both hose interior diameters. Tighten the upper coolant reservoir nut to 8 Nm after installation (71 lb in) then secure the protective cap back on the upper stud. Insert the outlet hose into the coolant reservoir after restoring the coolant level sensor electrical connection then tighten the clamp. The inlet hose installation requires connection to the coolant reservoir while applying clamp tension to the inlet hose. Use Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716) to complete your cooling system filling process.
