2009 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the radiator in an A/C system on 2009 Cadillac XLR?
A: Exchanging the Radiator starts with recovering the a/c system's refrigerant as well as draining the cooling system through proper procedures. Use hose clamp pliers (J 38185) to loosen the Radiator inlet hose clamp located at the Radiator before unhooking the hose on both sides. Finally, remove the Radiator inlet hose by itself. Raising the cooling fan assembly allows you to disconnect it from the Radiator by removing the assembly from the slots. The surge tank inlet hose requires hose clamp pliers (J 38185) to disengage its clamp before hose separation. You must detach both transmission oil cooler lines from the radiatator while supporting the vehicle elevation. Then use hose clamp pliers (J 38185) to disengage tension from the Radiator outlet hose clamp before disconnecting the outlet hose. First disconnect the generator cooling hose from the Radiator then lower the vehicle and finally remove the Radiator. New Radiator installation is completed by placing the part inside the vehicle and raising it to connect the generator cooling hose while tightening the generator cooling hose clamp. Connect the lower transmission oil cooler line while attaching the Radiator outlet hose and tighten the Radiator outlet hose clamp with hose clamp pliers (J 38185). Lower the vehicle while attaching the surge tank inlet hose and the upper transmission oil cooler line and tighten both clamps on these components. You should raise the cooling fan and shroud assembly to connect its tabs with Radiator slots before installing the cooling fan and shroud assembly. The Radiator inlet hose receives installation between engine and Radiator and hose clamp pliers (J 38185) should be used to apply tension to Radiator inlet hose clamps. The installation requires filling of the cooling system followed by a/c system evacuation and recharging and finishing with a halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) inspection of component fittings.
