2008 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the radiator on 2008 Cadillac XLR?
A: A Radiator replacement begins with following proper methods to evacuate refrigerant from the a/c system followed by draining the cooling system. First detach the condenser before removing the Radiator inlet hose's clamp tension with hose clamp pliers (J 38185). Proceed with Radiator inlet hose removal from both the Radiator and engine before removing the hose. Remove the cooling fan and shroud assembly from the Radiator slots by lifting it up and then disconnect the assembly from the Radiator. Use hose clamp pliers (J 38185) to reopen the surge tank inlet hose clamp located on the Radiator before disconnecting the surge tank inlet hose. Rise the vehicle after you disconnect the upper transmission oil cooler line. Mobilize hose clamp pliers (J 38185) to detach the Radiator outlet hose clamp at the Radiator before proceeding to disconnect the lower transmission oil cooler line and the generator cooling hose from the Radiator. After lowering the vehicle remove the Radiator from its position. Placing the new Radiator into the vehicle you should raise it to connect the generator cooling hose while tightening up the generator cooling hose clamp. Install the tensioned clamp on both the Radiator outlet hose while also securing the lower transmission oil cooler line to the Radiator outlet hose. Lower the vehicle so you can attach the upper transmission oil cooler line and surge tank inlet hose where you will secure the tension on the surge tank inlet hose clamp. After raising the cooling fan and shroud assembly let the tabs connect to the Radiator slots before linking the cooling fan and shroud assembly. Use hose clamp pliers (J 38185) to apply tension on the Radiator inlet hose clamps during installation of the hose between the engine and Radiator. The technician should progress through installing the condenser before filling the cooling system followed by evacuating and recharging the a/c system and completing a leak test using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A). Transmission fluid level inspection should also happen at this time.
