- Q: How to replace the radiator surge tank outlet coolant pipe on 2008 Cadillac XLR?A: One of the cooling system's hoses/pipe to be replaced is the Radiator surge tank outlet hose/pipe first drain the cooling system. Take out the Radiator support, then use the hose clamp pliers (J 38185) to relieve tension of the surge tank outlet hose clamp at the surge tank and remove the surge tank outlet hose from the surge tank. Next, remove and take the surge tank outlet hose assembly off the support tabs to the cooling Fan Shroud, and from under hood junction box retainer clip. Loosen tension of the surge tank outlet hose on the surgeon hose clamp at the heater pipe assembly, and remove the hose from the heater pipe assembly. Unfasten tension on the Radiator inlet hose clamp on the Radiator and undo the Radiator inlet hose from the Radiator and repeat the process at the engine by using hose clamp pliers (J38185). Before you detach the hose from the Thermostat Housing, remove the Radiator inlet hose and disclose the surge tank outlet hose clamp at the Thermostat Housing to let off tension. Take away the surge tank outlet hose assembly from the car. For installing, lime the inside diameter of the hoses with fresh coolant and attaching surge tank outlet hose assembly and connect the hose from the Thermostat Housing with tension on the lock. Mount the Radiator inlet hose by attaching it to the engine and Radiator with the use of the hose clamp pliers (J 38185) which fits on the clamps to apply tension. Hook up the surge tank outlet hose to the heater pipe assembly and hook up the hose to the underhood junction box retainer clip & support tabs on the cooling Fan Shroud. Along with this pinch on the clamp. Finally, join the surge tank outlet hose to the surge tank and tighten the clamp using hose clamp pliers (J 38185), reinstall the Radiator support, and refill the cooling system.
