- Q: How to replace the radiator surge tank outlet coolant pipe on 2007 Cadillac XLR?A: First, drain the cooling system and remove the Radiator support to replace the Radiator surge tank outlet hose/pipe. Proceed to remove tension from the surge tank outlet hose clamp at the surge tank using the hose clamp pliers (J 38185), and at that point, disconnect the surge tank outlet hose from the surge tank. Next, undo the surge tank outlet hose assembly from the support of the cooling Fan Shroud and from the underhood junction box retainer clip. Relieve the surge tank outlet hose clamp tension from the heater pipe assembly and remove the hose from the heater pipe assembly. Repeat the process using the hose clamp pliers (J 38185) to relieve tension on the Radiator inlet hose clamp at the Radiator, then pull off the Radiator inlet hose from the Radiator. Do this again with the Radiator inlet at the engine, removing the hose from the engine and unclipping it. Disengage tension on the surge tank outlet hose clamp at the Thermostat Housing and remove hose from the Thermostat Housing before removing the surge tank outlet hose assembly from the vehicle. For installation, run clean coolant on the inside diameters of the hoses and install the surge tank outlet hose assembly to the vehicle then connect it to the Thermostat Housing and tighten the clamp. Mount the Radiator inlet hose, attaching its one end to the engine and tightening the Radiator inlet hose clamp at the engine with the hose clamp pliers (J 38185), and the other end to the Radiator and tighten the Radiator inlet clamp at the Radiator using the hose clamp pliers(J 38185). Connect the surge tank outlet hose to the heater pipe assembly and lock tension onto the clamp and connect it to the under hood j box retainer clip and to the support tabs of the cooling Fan Shroud. Finally, connect the surge tank outlet hose to the surge tank and tighten the hose clamp onto it at the surge tank using the hose clamp pliers (J 38185), reinstall the Radiator support, and the fill the cooling system.
