2009 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the air conditioning evaporator core on 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The replacement procedure for the air conditioning Evaporator core requires detachment of the hvac module followed by Heater Core cover heat stake removal using a small chisel. Once the Heater Core is extracted, continue with the replacement steps. The procedure starts with opening the passenger compartment filter door by unsnapping its access point and continues with removal of the lower hvac case screws and lower hvac case platform to reach the Evaporator core. The process requires adding polyalkylene glycol (PAG) oil to the new Evaporator core after installing new seal washers on the core fittings while tightening thermal expansion valve (TXV) bolts to 7 nm (62 lb in). You must then install foam seals to the Evaporator core followed by placing it inside the hvac module assembly with correct positioning of the orifice plate and full installation of lower hvac case by screwing it in place using a torque of 1.8 nm (15 lb in). Secure the passenger compartment filter door properly while inspecting the Heater Core's foam seal on the lower hvac case and installing kent industries adhesive black foam tape part number 46480 when needed. The installation of the Heater Core into the hvac module requires exact placement of the Heater Core cover prior to screw installation at 1.8 nm (15 lb in). After installation of the hvac module reconnect the vehicle to perform a refrigerant evacuation followed by charging and inspect the fittings by using j 39400-a halogen leak detector. To complete the process you should connect the negative Battery Cable while adding appropriate quantities through the cooling system.
