2010 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the air conditioning evaporator core on 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The replacement process for the air conditioning Evaporator core begins by extracting the hvac module from the vehicle and continues with chiseling away heat stakes on the Heater Core cover before Heater Core extraction. The access to the Evaporator core begins by unsnap the passenger compartment filter door and removes all lower hvac case screws to uncover the Evaporator core. The new Evaporator core needs polyalkylene glycol (PAG) oil before installation of new seal washers on core fittings followed by thermal expansion valve (TXV) attachment using 7 nm (62 lb in) torque on bolts. Place the Evaporator core inside the hvac module assembly by first installing foam seals to it followed by fitting screws that should reach 1.8 nm (15 lb in) of torque. The passenger compartment filter door needs to be secured first while inspecting the lower hvac case foam Heater Core seal. Replace this seal with kent industries adhesive black foam tape p/n 46480 if it shows any damage. Secure the Heater Core inside the hvac module by positioning its cover correctly then tighten all screws to 1.8 nm (15 lb in). Install the hvac module into the vehicle before performing an evacuation and charge of the refrigerant system together with a leak test of the fittings through the j 39400-a halogen leak detector. Both steps include the Battery Cable connection while filling the cooling system meets necessary requirements.
